The need for middle school teachers ranks the highest of all current education programs for primary and secondary school-aged children. Middle school teachers help students hone in on their blossoming talents or skills before entering high school.
Lincoln University offers Middle School Bachelor of Science Degress in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Candidtates seeking certification in elementary or secondary education can add middle school endorsements to their programs to broaden teaching options.
Mission / Objectives
Candidates completing a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in the area of Middle School Education will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of their content area(s) knowledge base, educational and developmental theories, strategies, methodologies and procedures, national and state standards, and professional dispositions, for their appropriate degree.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how diverse students learn "best" and successfully implement instructional strategies that engage students in problem solving and critical thinking, utilizing a variety of methods that are developmental appropriate and content correct.
- Demonstrate an understanding of social responsibility and professionalism to enhance student's global consciousness, as well as their own global consciousness, when they encounter diverse people, perspectives and ideas.
Teacher Education Program Graduation & Missouri Certification Requirements
PATH TO GRADUATION AND CERTIFICATION
Students who meet the requirements set by the School of Education can apply to enter the Teacher Education Program for teacher certification. Multiple state-mandated assessments allow candidates and faculty to determine whether students have met the program adjectives. Candidates will earn the Bachelor of Science in Education Degree when they satisfy the completions requirements of one of the Teacher Education Program emphasis areas including successful completion of EDU 475 (Student Teaching) as well as satisfying general education requirements of Lincoln University. The School of Education is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Programs are approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Regular program reviews ensure that our teaching standards remain at its highest and coursework remains relevant to an ever-changing environment. For Certification Students must have a cumulative G.P.A. ≥ 2.75, a G.P.A. ≥ 3.00 for all education courses AND a G.P.A. ≥ 3.00 in their Content Area at the time of application for graduation.
