Filing for a Degree

Are you ready to finish your degree at Lincoln University of Missouri?
Our campus community is ready to celebrate your milestone ... so don't forget to file for your degree!Undergraduate students should file for graduation with the Office of the Registrar no later than the start of the semester in which they will graduate. The exact deadline date for applying each semester can be found listed in the Academic Calendar.
Graduate Students should file for graduation with the Office of Graduate and Extended Studies.
Steps for filing for your degree:
- Student submits the Application for Graduation in their Student Self Service portal
- The student and advisor(s) will review the student’s eligibility for graduation and complete graduation paperwork. Depending on your department, this could consist of a checklist, form, contract, etc. Students with multiple majors or minors may need to complete this step with multiple advisors or departments.
- The advisors forward the graduation paperwork to their Department Head for review and approval.
- The Department Head verifies the paperwork and forwards it to the Office of the Registrar.
- The Registrar compiles the applications and checklists from departments and does a final check by reviewing the major checklist and the general education checklist to ensure that the student will meet all graduation requirements upon completion of the student's current coursework.
- If the student has met all the requirements of the final check, the Registrar's Office will contact the student by campus e-mail to notify them of their eligibility to graduate. The student will be charged the $40.00 graduation fee and may pay it through their Student Self Service portal or at the Cashier's Office.
The student is not approved to graduate until they have received notification from the Registrar’s Office. Remember, although your advisor is a great resource to guide you through this process, they do not have the authority to approve your graduation.
If the student is short of total hours, upper division hours or not registered in the required courses, they will not be approved to graduate. In this scenario, the student’s graduation application may be moved to a future semester or withdrawn completely. If the student is attempting to graduate in the Summer session and wants to participate in the Spring graduation ceremony, they must apply by the Spring deadline. They may be permitted to participate in the ceremony if they are enrolled in the summer classes they need to graduate and meet all other requirements for participation. Please contact the Registrar’s Office for details on how to participate in the ceremony if you are finishing over the summer.
