NEED HELP PREPARING FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST OR IMPROVING YOUR ENGLISH?
WE CAN HELP -- AT NO COST TO YOU!
The Lincoln University Adult Education & Literacy program offers High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) preparation classes. These classes are designed to prepare students to take the High School Equivalency Test (formerly the GED) in Missouri. Classes are located in Jefferson City, Eldon, Fulton, and Versailles. All classes are provided at NO cost to the student.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are also available at the Jefferson City class site and in California, MO.
To attend either the HiSET preparation or ESL class, students must call to register and attend a scheduled Orientation. See the listing of upcoming Orientations on the right side of this page or from the Class Locations and Schedules tab on the left of this page..
The Orientation includes initial assessments that are needed to determine the academic level or English language proficiency of each student. Students preparing for the HiSET are tested in Math, Reading, and Language Arts. English Language Learners are assessed in reading, writing, listening, and speaking the English language. These assessments provide valuable information to the teacher regarding a student's knowledge in these areas. The teacher then customizes instruction based on these assessment results. The program provides everything the student needs -- textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, folders, etc. Students are periodically tested to determine their progress.
The High School Equivalency program operates in the Eldon, Fulton, and Versailles sites from August -- May. The Jefferson City class operates August -- June. Students study at their own pace and the length of time a student attends a class varies. Each class site follows the school calendar of the school district in which it is located. When the university is closed for breaks, holidays, or canceled due to inclement weather, the class is also closed/canceled.
