Cooperative Research
Director's Message
Welcome to Lincoln University Cooperative Research (LUCR)!
As a result of LU's mission as an 1890 land-grant university, the Cooperative Research Program at Lincoln University (LU) of Missouri is primarily supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the state of Missouri. This land-grant mission is to improve the quality of life for diverse, limited-resource citizens in Missouri and the nation as a whole through supportive agriculture research. In alignment with the USDA's top priority research areas, LUCR supports high-quality research to address critical, emergent issues in agriculture and develop sustainable solutions to the problems farmers face. With an integration of education, research and Extension services, this nationally recognized program conducts a variety of multidisciplinary, cutting-edge research, through national and international collaborations. These mainly focus on animal science, plant science, food safety, natural resources and big data science or socioeconomics.
LUCR currently has 14 faculty members and excellent research facilities, with many laboratories equipped with state-of-the art instruments. The faculty members actively pursue extramural funding and also publish extensively. They have expertise in the following areas: small ruminants, aquaculture, hydroponics, horticulture, plant pathology, integrated pest management (IPM), specialty crops, environmental chemistry, soil science, microbiology, geology, analytical chemistry, ecology, geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) applications, natural resources, nanotechnology, environmental engineering, and hydrology and watershed management. Research facilities include the Small Animal Research Facility; Charles E. Dickinson Plant and Soil Science Greenhouse Complex; Aquaculture Research Center; Center of Excellence for Environmental Science; Center of Nanotechnology; Center of Excellence for Leadership in GIS, Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System and Earth System Science; and three research farms.
In partnership with federal and state agencies, other academic institutions and private sectors, the program welcomes collaborators for multi-institution, multi-state, extramural-funded collaborative projects to build Lincoln University's research capacity and better serve the residents of Missouri and the nation.
