Student Health Services encourages you to take advantage of our comprehensive healthcare offerings for your medical needs. Our dedicated team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals is here to support you in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. As a registered student, you can access most services at no cost.

Student Health Services offers high-quality primary and urgent care, complemented by essential support services like laboratory and pharmacy. Our team includes board-certified primary care physicians and nurse practitioners, many of whom have specialized training and expertise.

We work closely with our outreach team to promote positive health behaviors among all students, helping you build a foundation for a healthy future.

Meet Our Medical Team

Dr. Adam Wheeler is the CEO and co-founder of Big Tree Medical. He has worked in health care for more than 20 years. Before starting Big Tree in 2017, he was a managing partner at Tiger Pediatrics. He has a special interest in general pediatrics, mental health, medical weight loss, and healthcare reform. In 2021, he won Columbia, Missouri’s Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2019, he won the University of Missouri Best Young Physician award. In his spare time, he likes driving, fly fishing, and hanging out with his four children.
Amy Voltz, RN, is a nurse with a passion for student health. She kicked off her career in the ICU, then worked for over 10 years as a school nurse. After recently moving back to Columbia, she joined the fantastic team at Big Tree Medical and is loving every minute of it! When she’s not caring for patients, you can find her chasing her two kids around, planning her next adventure, or going for a walk. She is excited to get to know the students at Lincoln University!

Tameka Thornton, RN, is a dedicated nurse from Columbia, Mo., with over a decade of experience in both clinical and inpatient settings. She is a wife, mother of two, and a proud grandmother of two, balancing her family life with a thriving career in health care. Over the years, Tameka has worked as a Certified Medical Assistant, Nurse Tech, and patient service representative. Recently, she completed her BSN to further advance her nursing journey. Now, she seeks a flexible role that allows her to continue delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while supporting her family and personal growth.

Dr. Piyusha Singh is the president of Big Tree Medical. Dr. Singh has significant experience leading strategy and operations in higher education and has brought that expertise to Big Tree. She is focused on growth, resource management, and the optimization of internal processes to meet strategic objectives. From her time in higher education, she knows first-hand how student health and achievement are linked and is excited to bring direct primary care to the higher education community.

Jennifer Wampler is the corporate accounts manager at Big Tree Medical, where she’s spent the last five years building meaningful partnerships with business owners. She thrives on fostering collaboration and finding innovative solutions for her clients. With a degree in Bible Studies from Fort Worth, Jennifer’s passion for helping others extends beyond her career. She and her husband are the founders of Lizzy’s Walk of Faith, a heartfelt foundation that supports pediatric cancer research.

Kirsten Lippleman is an operations manager at Big Tree Medical in Columbia, Mo. Kirsten holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Missouri. She has 6+ years of experience in healthcare management. In her previous role, she supported individuals with developmental disabilities in an independent living facility. Kirsten looks forward to expanding Direct Primary Care, one community at a time.
