Band Audition Requirements
LU Band Audition Standards for Wind & Percussion Instrument Players
Level 1, Total = Up to $5,000.00 per year.
- Perform all 12 Major Scales, two octaves. (PERCUSSION ONLY) 26 Standard American rudiments, "open-close-open" format AS WELL 12 Major scales
- Perform the chromatic scale the full range of the instrument
- Perform one etude provided by LUBT (check the band's website under "Audition Materials").
- Perform one prepared piece of student's choice (an etude or competitive solo). Please, no marching band pieces or pop tunes.
- Perform the G natural minor scale one octave.
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Level 2, Total= Up to $3,000.00 per year
- Perform Major Scales (B flat, E flat, A flat, F, G, D) two octaves. (PERCUSSION ONLY) 26 Standard American rudiments, "open-close-open" format AS WELL listed Major scales
- Perform the chromatic scale two octaves.
- Perform one etude provided by LUBT (check the bands website under "Audition Materials").
- Perform one prepared piece of the student's choice (an etude or competitive solo). Please, no marching band pieces or pop tunes.
- Perform the g natural minor scale one octave
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- 100% attendance at all performances and rehearsals. (Refer to the band handbook regarding the attendance policy
Level 3, Total= Up to $2,000.00 per year
- Perform Major Scales (B flat, E flat, A flat, F, G, D) one octave. (PERCUSSION ONLY) first 15 Standard American rudiments, "open-close-open" format AS WELL listed Major scales
- Perform the chromatic scale one octave.
- Perform two etudes of contrasting styles provided by LUBT (check the band's website under "Audition Materials").
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- 100% attendance at all performances and rehearsals. (Refer to the band handbook regarding the attendance policy).
Level 4, Total= Up to $1,000.00 year
- Perform Major Scales (B flat, E flat, A flat, F) one octave. (PERCUSSION ONLY) First 10 Standard American rudiments, "open-close-open" format AS WELL listed Major scales
- Perform a chromatic scale one octave.
- Perform one etude provided by LUBT (check the band's website under "Audition Materials").
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- 100% attendance at all performances and rehearsals. (Refer to the band handbook regarding the attendance policy).
Additional Scholarships Available:
- LU Connections: Students who are from states neighboring Missouri, i.e. Tennessee, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Nebraska
Total Amount=Out-of-State Fee Waiver
- Special Talent Scholarship: Musicians who are All-State, All-District, Solo and Ensemble (Grade 2 or Higher)
Total Amount= Out-of-State Fee Waiver
- Georgia Curitan Band Scholarship: 2.5 or higher, Recommendation from the director of bands.
Total Amount= $1,000 per year
