The History of Lincoln Homecoming
Since its inception during the 1925-26 academic year, Lincoln University’s Homecoming has grown into the largest and most anticipated annual event on campus. The first Homecoming Queen, Miss Mary Dennie—remembered as the “Queen of the Quill”— set the tone for a tradition of excellence and celebration.
Even in challenging times, such as the Great Depression and World War II, Lincolnites returned to campus to honor their alma mater. Over the decades, Homecoming has expanded to include a variety of cherished events: a spirited parade, the iconic bonfire, electrifying concerts featuring renowned performers and the ever-popular Homecoming Dance. These festivities have drawn alumni and friends back to Jefferson City year after year, fostering a sense of unity and pride.
Today, Lincoln University’s Homecoming is more than just a weekend; it’s a celebration of history, community and tradition. As we commemorate this milestone, we honor the generations of Lincolnites who laid the foundation for this remarkable legacy and welcome future generations to continue this rich tradition.
