25 in ’25 — Lincoln University Joins GLVC, Britney Brown Shines as GLVC Track Athlete of the Week — 7th fastest runner in nation for NCAA DII (400m)

January 22nd, 2025

As part of the Lincoln University of Missouri’s “25 in ‘25” points of pride, we celebrate a milestone for the Blue Tigers’ athletic program — on July 1, 2024, Lincoln officially joined the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Transitioning from 13 years in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), Lincoln is now competing as a full member of the NCAA Division II conference for the 2024–25 academic year.

This milestone marks early success for Lincoln University, as Britney Brown, a junior kinesiology major from Manchester, Jamaica, has become one of the institution’s first athletes to receive GLVC recognition. Brown earned the title of GLVC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week following her standout performances at the Nebraska Early Bird meet on December 13. Joining her in this achievement, is Emmanuel Rwotomiya, a sophomore pre-engineering major from Kingston, Jamaica, who was named GLVC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. Read more.

“I am truly humbled and honored by this achievement and will do my best to add similar accolades to my future,” said Britney Brown.

Brown excelled at the meet, winning the 400-meter race with a provisional qualifying time of 55.64, which ranks as the fastest in the GLVC and seventh nationally in NCAA Division II. Additionally, she anchored the Blue Tigers’ 4x400m relay team — with teammates Maria Diamond, Shaneal Clarke Giddings and Shevanae Thomas — to a first-place finish with a time of 3:44.55. The relay time ranks third nationally in Division II and second in the conference.

Lincoln’s move to the GLVC aligns with its mission to provide student-athletes with opportunities to excel both on and off the field. The transition offers fresh challenges and a platform to showcase Lincoln’s talent on a broader stage.

“Lincoln allows me to pursue my education and career while providing an ease to my approach,” Brown said. “For me, being a Blue Tiger means being a part of a family.”

The Blue Tigers’ indoor track and field teams will continue their season on January 24 at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas, where Brown and her teammates aim to build on their strong start.

Stay tuned for the rest of the month with more of Lincoln’s 25 in ‘25.
