25 in '25 – Lincoln Partners in $10 Million Project to Advance Climate-Smart Agriculture Practices

January 13th, 2025

Lincoln University of Missouri is continuing its “25 in ‘25” points of pride to build on last year’s momentum and keep propelling the University to future success.

Today, the University highlights Lincoln University scientists who have been participating in a multistate team led by Ohio State University to advance climate-smart agricultural practices. The partnership has been focused on farmer-centered research and innovation to promote sustainable farming practices across the Midwest.

They are receiving funding through a five-year $10 million grant to Ohio State University from USDA’s flagship Agriculture and Food Research Initiative's Sustainable Agricultural Systems (AFRI-SAS) program.

“Lincoln University’s leadership in this initiative reflects our commitment to supporting historically underserved farmers in Missouri by equipping them with innovative and climate-smart practices,” said Tunsisa Hurisso, a soil scientist and research and extension assistant professor in the LU’s College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences. Hurisso is a co-principal investigator and lead coordinator of project activities at LU.

Lincoln University’s collaboration with regional farmers and researchers aims to enhance climate resilience, sustainability, and productivity in agriculture. By working hand in hand with farmers, the University seeks to ensure a brighter and more sustainable future for farming communities across the region.

This project is part of Lincoln University’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation and excellence in agricultural sciences, in line with the University’s “25 in ‘25” key highlights to showcase its achievement and build on the momentum for continued success.

Stay tuned for the rest of the month with more of Lincoln’s 25 in ‘25.
