Lincoln University Hosts Veterans Appreciation Breakfast with Keynote by Col. Douglas Rose, USA (Ret)

Lincoln University held its annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 8, honoring military veterans and active-duty personnel. The event, held at The LINC in Jefferson City, featured a keynote address by retired Col. Douglas C. Rose Jr., a Lincoln University alumnus and decorated U.S. Army veteran.

A Southeast Missouri native and 1990 graduate of Lincoln University, Rose has a distinguished 30-year military career. A member of the Army ROTC Hall of Fame, Rose holds advanced degrees from Webster University and the National War College. He completed extensive military training, including the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced courses, the Combined Armed Services Staff School and the Command and General Staff College. 

Veterans Day Salute - In Flanders Fields 

Rose served in various key roles, including as director of special operations forces for the Combined Force Special Operations Component Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was later selected as the inaugural interagency representative for the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, where he provided military counsel during nine presidential strategy sessions on U.S. policy in the region.

In recognition of his service, Rose has received numerous military decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal. His special operations qualifications include the Joint Chiefs of Staff Badge, Airborne Badge and Pathfinder Badge.

The Veterans Appreciation Breakfast opened with the presentation of colors and the national anthem. After Rose’s keynote address, veterans in attendance were recognized and a video tribute honored their service. The event concluded with the retiring of the colors.
