Students from Lincoln University’s Undergraduate Poetry Workshop, led by Professor of English Elijah Burrell, will present their original work during a special program on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Missouri River Regional Library Art Gallery, located at 214 Adams Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
"My student writers have been sharing their work with the community for several years, and it's always a joy to see the positive responses they receive from complete strangers," Burrell says. "It's truly rewarding to watch people from Jefferson City and the surrounding areas come out to hear the poems the students have spent the semester crafting and refining."
Eight students will share poems written during the semester, reflecting on the issues and passions that resonate most with them. This program offers the mid-Missouri community an opportunity to experience fresh voices in poetry and support the creative work of Lincoln University’s student writers.
"This experience not only strengthens their confidence as emerging writers but also allows them to connect with the broader community," Burrell says. "For Lincoln students, reaching beyond the university’s walls to share a meaningful part of themselves is a powerful way to engage with those who come to listen."
This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the students’ artistry.
