October 1st, 2024

Lincoln University of Missouri has named Tim Abney as director of athletics and campus recreation, effective October 1, 2024. Abney has served as interim athletic director since April of this year.

“I'm deeply honored to continue serving Lincoln University in this new role,” Tim Abney said. “I've always believed in the power of athletics to transform lives both on and off the playing surface. I'm excited to lead our programs into a future that prioritizes student success, athletic excellence and the Blue Tiger spirit.”

A 1978 graduate of Lincoln University, Abney has dedicated much of his professional career to his alma mater. Before taking on the interim role, the former basketball standout served as the head women’s basketball coach for 10 seasons, becoming the second-winningest coach in the program’s history. He also led the tennis team for seven years and was previously assistant athletic director for administration, where he championed a student-first philosophy. Abney is a 2017 inductee of the Lincoln University Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as a member of both the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the North Carolina A&T Sports Hall of Fame.

“Tim’s unwavering dedication to Lincoln University and his wealth of experience make him the perfect choice to lead our athletics and campus recreation programs,” said Lincoln University President Dr. John Moseley. “No one understands the unique needs and potential of Lincoln athletics better than Tim Abney. His leadership will be crucial as we work to enhance the success of our athletic programs in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and create a thriving environment for our student-athletes.”
