Dr. Stevie Lawrence II has been named as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Lincoln University, effective July 1, 2023. Lawrence will assume responsibility of the academic division for Lincoln University, one of the nation’s oldest 1890 land-grant institutions.
In May, Lawrence visited Lincoln University’s campus and met with members of the President’s Advisory Council, as well as deans and the current president of the faculty senate.
“Dr. Lawrence brings with him a wealth of experience that will add to the momentum we are building,” says Dr. John Moseley, President of Lincoln University. “The core of our mission is to provide educational opportunity for our students, and I am certain he will provide the leadership we need to build upon our legacy of exemplary scholarship at Lincoln University.”
With a strong background in higher education leadership, specifically in student retention and success, Lawrence will help Lincoln University’s students meet their academic needs and champion for their holistic success. He will support Lincoln University’s strategic emphasis on student success as the collaborative responsibility of students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the University.
“I am extremely excited to join the Lincoln University family. I look forward to working with all constituents of the University to enhance the academic profile of Lincoln under the leadership of President Moseley,” states Lawrence. “I especially look forward to working with the academic deans, department chairs, and the faculty – including them in the decision-making process to move Lincoln University to its next level of preeminence. Most importantly, I am eager to engage with the very bright and talented students at Lincoln University, strengthening existing academic and support programs to enhance their overall experience at the University."
Lawrence comes to Lincoln from the Southern Regional Education Board, where he serves as vice president for postsecondary education. In this role, he leads the board’s postsecondary programs and developed initiatives to support postsecondary state offices and institutions. Lawrence also was the founding dean of the University College at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. In this position, he worked on innovative strategies that increased student retention, persistence and graduation. In addition, he has academic experience from the University of North Carolina System Office, Shaw University, Virginia Union University and Halifax Community College. Lawrence is a 2022-23 American Council on Education (A.C.E.) fellow, a 2020-21 American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Initiative (MLI) protégé, and a member of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F.).
Lawrence holds a Doctor of Philosophy in urban higher education from Jackson State University, a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina A&T State University.
