Admission Requirements

Lincoln University admits students who may benefit from and contribute to its educational programs, regardless of age, race, immigration status, creed, sex, color, religion, national origin, ability, or socio-economic status. Students may declare social work as a pre-major upon admission to Lincoln University.

All Students intending to major in social work are required to complete the admission process; applications are due by March 31st.

To be considered for the social work program, students must meed the following criteria:

  • Complete SW 201 - Introduction to Social Work
  • Complete 42 credit hours, including the following social work prerequisite courses:
    • PSY 101 - General Psychology
    • SA 201 - Introduction to Sociology
    • SOC 301 - Sociology of the Family
    • MAT 117 - Elementary Statistics
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Have at least Sophomore status
  • Submit a formal application to the social work program, which includes the application form, a resume, a personal and professional reference and a personal statement.


Transfer students will be evaluated on an individual basis, and must meet the minimum requirements or their equivalent(s) to be eligible for admission to the social work program.

A personal interview may be requested by the social work faculty.
