At Lincoln University, the Bachelor of Arts in Music is where creativity meets discipline and passion turns into mastery, whether your focus is vocal performance, instrumental performance or music business. Rooted in the College of Arts and Sciences, within the Department of Humanities and Communications, this in-seat-only program offers students an immersive experience where all aspects of music come to life. Whether you're setting the stage for a breathtaking vocal performance, honing your instrumental talents or learning the business savvy needed to shape the industry's future, Lincoln provides the tools, mentorship and hands-on opportunities to elevate your craft.

Students in this major will complete the music foundation requirements, including music theory, applied music labs, ensemble participation and music history and literature. The program also includes courses in form and analysis, basic conducting and advanced harmony. Depending on their concentration, students will take specialized courses.

  • The Vocal Concentration includes studies in lyric diction, choral conducting, vocal literature and choral arranging, accompanied by ensemble and individual performance requirements.
  • The Instrumental Concentration includes classes in woodwinds, brass, percussion, orchestration, instrumental techniques and conducting, with a performance emphasis in ensembles and individual recitals.
  • The Music Business Concentration incorporates coursework in entrepreneurship, business law, management, advertising and social media marketing, equipping students with both musical and business acumen to navigate the music industry.
All concentrations require participation in primary applied lessons, ensemble performance and regular recitals to ensure hands-on learning and skill development.

Lincoln's academic programs comprise a core curriculum, program requirements and electives. The courses listed below are just a small sample that must be taken for this specific program. 

Required Courses Major (core): A minimum grade of "C" is required in the following courses: MUS 100, 101, 102, 120, 198/398, 198L/398L 201, 202, 313, 314, 401. (MUS 202 and MUS 401 are not required for Music Business emphasis.)

Lincoln University Vocal Ensemble (LUVE) is an auditioned ensemble of mixed voices comprised of students from throughout the campus community.  

Lincoln University Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble of mixed voices comprised of students from throughout the campus community.

CHOIR CAMP - Registration

Choir Camp is a requirement for incoming freshmen who want to join the Lincoln University Choir and/or the Lincoln University Vocal Ensemble. It is held in August on the Lincoln University campus. We welcome experienced and inexperienced singers to attend vocal workshops and sectional masterclasses. During the week, you can enjoy fellowship and guest performances.
