Types of Aid
The Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) awards financial aid to help students pay for educational expenses.
Financial aid is available from the University as well as from federal, state and private resources.
There are four primary types of financial aid:
- Grants are awarded based on demonstrated financial need. They do not have to be repaid.
- Scholarships/Waivers are awarded based on a variety of factors such as academic achievement, talent, athletic ability, leadership, geographical location, field of study and/or financial need. These do not have to be repaid.
- Loans are funds borrowed to help pay for educational expenses. Loans must be repaid, usually with interest.
- Veteran Benefits are based upon military service of the veteran and the enrollment status of the student. Veterans and their dependents and spouse are generally eligible.
The Financial Aid Package
Financial aid is available for all students. You may apply for financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
SFS uses the FAFSA results to determine eligibility for the various financial programs. If you're found to be eligible, SFS will send a financial aid award letter offering an award or a combination of awards. The total amount of financial aid that you receive is referred to as the financial aid package.
Please contact us if you have questions regarding financial aid, scholarships, FAFSA or other topics related to your tuition.
