Learn to Save Lives with the EMT Certificate Program

Advance your career with Lincoln University’s EMT certificate program, part of the university's innovative Security Sciences Institute. With strong ties to local and state partners, our flexible hybrid program provides direct pathways to fulfilling careers in emergency medical services, law enforcement, and healthcare.

If you are a paramedic, a medical assistant, or a medical technician looking to advance your career, this program is well-suited for you. The EMT certificate program also satisfies all state requirements for certification or the mandatory two-year recertification of existing EMT credentials.

Why Choose the EMT Certificate Program?

  • Flexible, hybrid learning. The EMT certificate program is hybrid, with both online and in-person instruction. The program is developed and scheduled to meet the needs of current and advanced professionals. You will have access to all necessary equipment, curriculum, and materials.
  • Efficiency. The EMT certificate can typically be completed in one semester if participants take the recommended course load.
  • Expanded opportunities. Unlike similar programs at other institutions, Lincoln University’s EMT certificate program is integrated within a larger program of certifications and degree opportunities. Whether considering enrollment in the LU Law Enforcement Academy, our regionally recognized nursing program, or other associated programs at the University, the EMT program represents a direct conduit between Lincoln University’s expanding Security Sciences instruction and the workforce opportunities represented by our local and state partners.
  • Personalized, Professional Support. Faculty members in the Schools of Nursing and Education, along with adjunct instructors who are industry professionals, will provide personalized academic and professional guidance.
  • Experiential learning. The program includes hands-on learning experiences, simulations, and opportunities for real-world applications.

EMTs are needed more than ever. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that employment for EMTs will grow 6% from 2023 to 2033, which is faster than the average for all occupations. This is due to several factors, including an aging population, the need for more emergency medical care in rural areas, and the need to replace workers who leave the workforce.
  • Eligibility: This program is open to anyone who meets Lincoln’s general admissions requirements. It is particularly suited for professionals in fields such as healthcare, emergency management, and public safety who are looking to advance their careers through additional training and certification.
  • Prerequisites: Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent. No prior EMT experience is required. This program is designed for both beginners preparing for entry level positions and emergency medical professions and existing EMT professionals looking to recertify or deepen their knowledge as emergency medical responders.
