Para to Pro: Teacher Certification Program
"It’s been an easy way for me to get my degree when I didn’t think I ever would!" — LU Para to Pro student
Are you a paraeducator in the K-12 field? If you’re looking for a flexible way to transition into a full-time teaching role, Lincoln University can help. An online teacher certification program, our Para to Pro program provides an affordable, structured, supportive online path to earn your degree. Become a certified teacher with an elementary education or special education focus — all while you continue to work in your current position.
We understand your vital role in students' lives, and our program is designed to fit your schedule. We’re here to support you on your journey, no matter how long it’s been since you were last a student. Perfect for paraprofessionals, teacher assistants and full-time substitute teachers to advance their careers!
This program serves as a "Grow Your Own" initiative, supporting school districts by enabling classroom aides to become certified teachers without leaving their current roles.
About the Para to Pro Online Program
- Designed for paraprofessionals, teacher assistants and full-time substitute teachers with at least two years of classroom experience
- Offered in an 8-week, fully online format (take 2 to 3 courses every 8 weeks) — complete your degree without coming to campus
- Classes are structured within a cohort model (small groups from 15 to 25 students) to foster collaboration and peer support
Your Current Role Can Count as Student Teaching
Your current work is valuable, and we count experiential credit toward student teaching requirements. We will observe you in your current classroom, so you don't have to complete additional student teaching.
Potential Increase in Salary — Before Completing Your Degree
While continuing their current roles as paras, some of our Para to Pro students were able to move to a provisional teacher certificate and enjoy the pay increase that comes with that step. Check with your district to see if you are eligible!

"Teachers are always available to answer questions. They give us plenty of extra information to help us succeed on our assignments. They are willing to give us extensions when something happens, and we need extra time, especially since we are all working full-time jobs."
"The best part of the Para to Pro program is that it is all online."
