Provost’s Fellows Program
The Provost’s Fellows Program provides academic leadership experience in core areas within faculty and academic administrative affairs at Lincoln University. Fellows are provided the opportunity to identify, study and provide recommendations to resolve and/or elevate strategic priorities of the academic enterprise. In addition, selected Fellows will lead faculty training, mentoring and professional development activities by leading selected programs and initiatives, sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of the Provost.
During the early development of faculty members, the professional focus is typically on pursuing individual research, teaching, and service activities that strengthen faculty members’ eligibility for promotion and tenure. Often, preparation in these areas does not always provide continual development of leadership skills that will equip faculty with the experiences that will position them for advancement within the academy if they desire it. To provide opportunities for growth around academic leadership, the Provost’s Fellows program has been designed to assist faculty with gaining a more in-depth and well-informed understanding of the University, higher education administration and leadership and those skills required to be successful at the department head level and above within the academy.
Applicants must be a tenured faculty member. Possess some prior leadership experience within their academic department, but not necessarily required.
A request for nominations and applications for the Provost’s Fellows Program should be made to the Office of the Provost in mid-September each year (check with the Provost's Office for the exact deadline). Faculty can submit their applications or be nominated by their peers, department heads, deans, and other executive leaders of the University.
When either nominated by campus leadership, peer faculty members, or in cases of a self-nomination/applications, each application must include the following:
- A statement of interest detailing how this professional development opportunity will contribute to both their professional advancement and the strategic elevation of the academic enterprise and that of the University.
- A current curriculum vitae.
The Office of the Provost will identify one Provost’s Fellow each academic year, with the term beginning on January 1 and ending on December 31 of the same calendar year (one calendar year). Fellows are expected to report in their roles over the summer at least two days per the four-day work week and will receive three hours of course release time during the spring and fall terms of their experience.
Please submit all application materials to Provost@LincolnU.edu and insert Provost Fellows Interest Application in the subject line. All applications will be reviewed by an internal selection committee comprised of faculty, staff and executive leaders.
