Lincoln University Freshman Innovation Council Visits Cole County Circuit Court

March 25th, 2025

On February 26, the Lincoln University of Missouri Freshman Innovation Council (F.I.C.) and their F.I.C. mentors participated in an experiential learning activity at the 19th Judicial Circuit Court, gaining insight into lobbying, the political process and strategies for social action and mobilization.

The visit featured a discussion with the Honorable Judge S. Cotton Walker of the Cole County Circuit Court, Division 3. Walker provided students with firsthand knowledge of how advocacy, policy and legal frameworks intersect to drive meaningful change. The experience deepened students’ understanding of civic engagement and the role of mobilization in shaping communities.

Peer mentors from various Lincoln University student organizations attended, including representatives from the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Student Government Association, National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs and the Royal Court. The event was co-advised by Issac Bivins Jr. and Theressa Ferguson, who helped facilitate the experience.

This immersive opportunity reinforced the importance of understanding how legal and political systems operate and how students can become active participants in enacting change.

While details for future events are still being finalized, the Lincoln University F.I.C. plans to host additional sessions before the semester concludes, continuing its mission of fostering leadership and civic engagement.
