Hardy K. Dorsey, Sr. exemplifies the enduring power of giving back. A member of Lincoln University’s Class of 1969, he has dedicated more than 40 years to creating opportunities through education, leadership and community service. In 2014, he was inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame for community service, a testament to his lasting impact.
Now, as a member of the newly established Lincoln University Alumni Council, Dorsey continues to strengthen the connection between the University and its more than 19,000 alumni. A proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Dorsey’s legacy is one of service and excellence. From his work as National Alumni President to his successful career as an educator, administrator and business leader, he has remained deeply committed to Lincoln University.
This holiday season, we invite you to follow in the footsteps of leaders like Dorsey. Your support ensures that future generations of students will benefit from the same transformative opportunities that shaped his life and so many others.
Below, read a Q&A with Dorsey.
What does LU mean to you?
LU provided me with skills, self-esteem and confidence. It not only gave me lifelong friends, including my wife of 57 years, but also a nationwide network in the HBCU community. LU has given me the capacity to be a successful educator, administrator, corporate executive and small business owner. I am delighted in my many endeavors to let people know that I am a “Proud Lincolnite.”
What impact do you hope to have made on students and the campus community?
As National Alumni President (2003-2009), over 3,000 alumni participated in making the Soldiers Memorial a reality in 2007. This was the result of a successful collaboration with the University, the Board of Curators, our Foundation and our alumni. I would hope our students, faculty and the community at large are inspired by our Soldiers Memorial. I have met successful alumni all over this country, and it makes me so proud.
How would you encourage others to support the University and make a difference?
I would encourage other alumni to stay connected to the school, not just at Homecoming but throughout the year. Alumni should know what is going on and what they can do to assist. If our students are learning and succeeding, our school must be doing something right, and we need to financially support such efforts.
As alumni, we have a responsibility to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities afforded us. Alumni giving is not just lip service but giving of our time, talent and treasure to advance the mission of the University. Matching funds and tax incentives provide very formidable options as to how we can give to our alma mater.
