Lincoln University’s Alpha Zeta Omicron Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha Welcomes New Inductees and Honors Alumnus

On September 30, 2024, the Alpha Zeta Omicron chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, held its induction ceremony. The chapter welcomed two new members: Amari Fluelen from St. Louis, Missouri, and Ezekiel Irons from Raytown, Missouri.

In addition to welcoming the newest inductees, the chapter presented the Outstanding LU Political Science Alumni Award to Maher Akremi. This award honors Lincoln University graduates who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments, leadership and dedication in their field.

Akremi, a 2018 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, was nominated by Dr. Christine Boston, associate professor of sociology and anthropology. In her nomination letter, Dr. Boston praised Akremi, stating, “Maher exemplifies not only some of what political scientists can and do accomplish but the best of LU alumni can and do achieve.”

Since graduating, Akremi has built an impressive career, starting as an exit poll interviewer for Edison Research during the 2018 midterm elections. He later secured a prestigious Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship, where he contributed to peacebuilding research and event coordination at the Alliance for Peacebuilding in Washington, D.C. Akremi continued his career at Women of Color Advancing Peace, Security and Conflict Transformation, where he advanced from project assistant to program manager, overseeing significant projects focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. Currently, he is a creative producer and project manager for Peace and Pen Foundry at Bombshell Toe, and also serves as D.C. program coordinator for Clean Water Action. 

Pi Sigma Alpha recognizes students for their academic excellence. To qualify for membership, undergraduates must complete at least half of their required degree credits, including at least 10 credits in political science with one upper-division course, and maintain a GPA in the top third of their class. Graduate students must complete nine credits in political science with no grade lower than a B to be eligible.
