Lincoln University Breaks Ground on Health & Security Sciences Institute

On October 3, 2024, Lincoln University of Missouri celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Health & Security Sciences Institute (HSSI). The ceremony, held at 709 E Dunklin Street, marks the beginning of a project that will advance healthcare and crisis response education throughout Missouri and the Midwest.

The institute will be housed in a new 40,000-square-foot facility, designed to expand Lincoln University's thriving nursing program and enhance the Law Enforcement Training Academy. Together, these programs will form an educational hub dedicated to training essential healthcare and crisis response professionals, addressing the critical needs of both local and state communities.

At the ceremony, Dr. Grant Winrow, Lincoln University’s vice president for university advancement, gave the welcome to open the event. Lincoln University President Dr. Moseley, along with Cole County Presiding Commissioner Sam Bushman, Jefferson City Mayor Ron Fitzwater and Student Government Association President Jillian Patton, spoke on the importance of the HSSI in meeting the growing demand for healthcare and crisis response professionals. Nia Walker, board of curators student representative, introduced Missouri Governor Mike Parson, who spoke about the significance of the new facility for the region.

The HSSI will serve as a collaborative hub for local, state and regional agencies, as well as Lincoln students and faculty in fields such as nursing, health sciences, pre-med and security sciences. The institute’s mission is to meet the needs of underserved populations and enhance community responsiveness.

Lincoln University’s Health & Security Sciences Institute is poised to become a vital resource for healthcare and security training, benefiting students and communities across the region.
