Student Enrollment on the Rise at Lincoln University of Missouri
The number of first-time freshmen at Lincoln University of Missouri has risen by 349 — a 17.5% increase over the fall 2021 freshman class.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Lincoln University of Missouri is seeing an increase in student numbers for the fall semester, a happy result of increased recruiting efforts at the historically black university. According to figures released by President John B. Moseley, total enrollment at LU stands at 1,833 students, a 2% increase over the 1,794 students registered in fall 2021. Full-time student numbers show a similar uptick, rising from 1,208 last year to 1,236 in 2022.
Lincoln welcomed 466 first-time Blue Tiger students this fall, with an expanded freshman class driving its enrollment growth. The new crop of 349 first-time freshmen represents a 17.5% increase over the fall 2021 freshman class. First-time transfers are also on the rise at Lincoln — 117 transfer students registered compared to 102 last year.
“I believe the increase came from the hard work of the admissions staff and all the great new things Lincoln has going on, such as guaranteed scholarships and more than 30 academic majors,” says LU Director of Admissions Danisha Williams.
The university has stepped up its focus on recruiting and admissions recently, highlighting excellent educational opportunities within a welcoming atmosphere and culturally responsive environment. Williams joined the administration in July, coming to Lincoln after previously serving in similar roles at two other HBCUs. In addition, Lincoln has hired regional remote recruiters in Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, mid-Missouri and the Bootheel/Memphis area to expand visibility and build significant relationships with high school and community college staff, Williams says.
“We have a number of new memorandums of understanding that allow transfer students a smooth transition to LU and a thriving HBCU campus life where our students actively engage in social and academic programs on a daily basis,” Williams adds. “Our top programs include agriculture, business administration, criminal justice, elementary education and nursing. We will continue to sell our message of affordability in a nurturing environment.”
Lincoln continues to build on its success, reaching a variety of students near and far. For Christopher Williams, a freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina, the Lincoln campus already feels like home. “I chose Lincoln because I knew it would be a good fit,” he says. “It felt right from the moment I arrived on campus and I know it’s a place where I can be successful.”
